New York, N.Y. - Today, the international surgical outreach
organization, Doctors On Call (D.O.C., Organization Inc.) expanded
its service to improve access to surgical care and information by
launching its Website www.doc-online.org on the World Wide Web.
This user-friendly Website offers straightforward medical information
to volunteers and patients alike.
"The site is
designed to deliver consistent user interfaces with clear, interesting,
easy-to-use and intuitive navigation," says Webmaster Keisha Phipps
of Mind Mirror Productions,
and D.O.C. member. It allows users to familiarize and educate themselves
on D.O.C. initiatives through a robust, consistently available,
browser-independent Website." Press releases, mission reports, minutes
and other publications detailing what's happening within D.O.C.,
along with information on the medical team can be viewed or requested
online.
Doctors On Call
supports five areas of development in specialty and sub-specialty
surgery: Ear Nose Throat (ENT), which includes head and neck and
Craniofacial surgery, plastic and reconstructive, general, vascular
surgery and urology.
"We are excited
about the benefits this site offers the community. Our ability to
communicate and educate in a timely, dynamic manner about outreach,
the latest medical advances, and training for Caribbean surgeons,
will markedly change the delivery of outreach services delivered
in the region," explained Dr. Brian Donaldson, General and Vascular
Surgeon at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
and D.O.C. Spokesperson. "There are future plans for clinical information
on our outreach research findings." Dr. Donaldson added, "This site
will evolve along with regional advancements in surgical care. It
is a crucial link in our commitment to accessible and open communications
with our community."
Founded in 2000,
D.O.C. is the first international outreach organization to focus
exclusively on increasing access to general and reconstructive surgery
in the Caribbean.
D.O.C. successfully
carried out its first surgical outreach mission in Jamaica last
spring, at Annotto Bay Hospital located in the parish of St. Mary,
where more than 50 patients received care, 29 patients underwent
general or reconstructive surgery according to D.O.C. records.
Doctors On
Call's medical team will return to Jamaica March 31 to April 7,
